MC, PRODUCER, AND ENTREPRENUER SPREADS THE SOUL OF KENTUCKY HIP-HOP TO VENUES NATIONWIDE By Natasha Thomas

Flint, Michigan – January 1, 2007 - From the soaring, Dionne Warwick sample that opens his song, “Kentucky Blues” to the colorful way he introduces Michigan hip-hop fans to the distinctive language of the south, it’s obvious that Kentucky-born, Michigan-based MC, Main Event holds his bluegrass roots close to his heart.

Since moving to Michigan in 2001, Main Event has amassed a number of accolades and critical success. In addition to being an MC, a producer, and the head of Rosta Records, an independent record label, he has also been a featured performer on the Showtime at the Apollo tour, been cited by local newspapers as one of Flint, Michigan’s top emcees, opened for national artists such as Slum Village, and has performed in venues all over the country. Since releasing his debut, solo effort entitled, “Director’s Cut”, Main Event’s style has been hailed by underground hip-hop critics for its intelligence, insight, wit, and powerful lyricism. In both print and digital publications, Main Event has been touted as being a refreshingly innovative new talent on the hip-hop scene who has the ability to appeal to the purists and commercialists alike.

However, Main Event’s love for hip-hop culture and its adherents is bigger than the music itself. Believing that his art can be a vehicle for change, Main Event conducts hip-hop and social awareness workshops for youth as the Arts Director of Raise It Up!, an urban youth program that utilizes the vehicle of performing arts to help youth tackle tough personal and social issues, increase literacy, and foster self esteem.
