With the precision of a plastic surgeon and the determination of the Terminator, Jair Lynch stood steadfast in his refusal to allow the excruciatingly painful and bloody callous in his left palm rule his destiny. Taking a razor blade to cut off the dangling skin on the palm of his hand and prevent further damage, Jair Lynch went on to win a silver medal and become the first African American male gymnast ever to medal in the Olympics. He was also the only man on the 1996 USA Men's Gymnastics Team to medal. But there is far more to Jair Lynch than athletic achievement. He is a Rhodes Scholar nominee, a graduate of Stanford University (academic and athletics honors), a volunteer and financial director of the Peninsula Omega Youth Club, and a symbol of achievement, caring, excellence, and perseverance for millions of Americans.
