THE MARTY BALIN BAND
Michelangelo claimed that he did not create a sculpture. Rather, the form was contained within the block of marble; he merely removed the excess, revealing the work of art."I feel the same way about music, and about all the projects Im involved in. The projects do themselves; the music comes through me." The same vision Marty had when he launched the Jefferson Airplane is present today. In fact, nearly everything he has worked on over the years has been fueled with his vision of art and music as vehicles for expressing a positive message. 'I still have the same attitude. "I still love the positive, uplifting songs, and I believe in songs with those qualities. I believe that music can help change the world for the better\"

Born Martyn Jerel Buchwald in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 30, 1942, Marty was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area by parents Joe and Jean Buchwald. Joe became an important part in the 60s San Francisco music scene. As a lithographer, he was responsible for printing more than 200 different posters for shows at famous clubs like the Matrix, the Fillmore and Avalon Ballrooms. Jean started and kept the Jefferson Airplane scrap books featuring many of the photos and newspaper clippings that are exclusive to this site.

Marty met singer/guitarist Paul Kantner at the local club the Drinking Gourd, and together they formed Jefferson Airplane. Initially a folk-rock venture, the group came to epitomize the psychedelic scene, scoring a gold record with their 1967 second album, Surrealistic Pillow. Although vocalist Grace Slick was the focal point of hits such as "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit," Balin\\\'s soulful tenor proved a pivotal element of their sound as well. He also wrote key compositions including "Its No Secret" "Today," "Comin' Back To Me" "Plastic Fantastic Lover" 'Share a Little Joke," and\"Volunteers."

Marty was the founder and featured vocalist for Jefferson Airplane from 1965 to 1971. He appeared with the group during their performances at Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, Woodstock, and the disastrous Altamont Speedway concert in 1969. Balin was knocked unconscious by a biker from the Hells Angels motorcycle club while he was trying to save a couple of fans from being beaten by the Hells Angels. (This event was captured on film in the Rolling Stones documentary Gimme Shelter).

Marty, who is also an accomplished painter, entered the new millennium painting and exhibiting his work at various art galleries. He continued touring on and off with Jefferson Starship and released four albums of his own: Nashville Sessions, Mercy of The Moon, Nothin' 2 Lose, and Time For Every Season. In 2009 Balin spent the year on and off in the studio with Slick Aguilar recording new songs for the album Blue Highway to be released in the summer of 2010.

Jefferson Airplane performed at the Berkeley Folk Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock, and Altamont. They had hit singles White Rabbit and Somebody to Love, from the album "Surrealistic Pillow". They were on the cover of Life Magazine in 1968. The band co- headlined with the Doors in Europe in the summer of 1968. Many legendary bands opened for the Airplane: Grateful Dead, Santana, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Janis Joplin, Steve Miller, and many others.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. THE MARTY BALIN BAND

Marrakesh Express (Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young tribute band)
"Marrakesh Express
Biography

There are hundreds, if not thousands of tribute bands performing the music of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, U2, and other monsters of rock. But Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young? Next to none. A band dedicated to tributing CSNY is unheard of due to the difficulty in replicating the 3- and 4-part vocal harmonies that made the group international superstars. Marrakesh Express is the world's only touring CSNY tribute band and excels at reproducing their complex songs and cascading, layered harmonies. The band takes the audience back to the late 1960s with youthful musicians who bring an authentic hippie vibe and visual to the stage. CSNY was arguably the biggest band in the world after the demise of the Beatles, and is one of the most enduring and influential musical groups of all time. The band, born in the turbulent years of the late 1960s, released hit after hit that spoke directly for their generation. Their songs remain in heavy rotation on classic rock radio stations to this day. Marrakesh Express upholds the integrity of that music with their vivid and realistic performance of CSNY’s most recognizable songs. Featuring four harmonizing vocalists backed by a top-flight band, they deliver a unique and energetic concert performing the classic acoustic and electric CSNY hits, deep cuts, and fan favorites. Marrakesh Express has played to tens of thousands of appreciative fans at music festivals, theaters, fairs, performing arts centers, and casinos, including headlining the Woodstock 40th Anniversary Tribute Concert. The music of CSNY has stood the test of time and fans of the classic rockers, as well as young people who are curious about “the 60s,” are anxious to venture out to hear it represented live.

Marrakesh Express performs a full evening of classic rock staples that will have the audience singing along, reminiscing, and thinking about how their songs are still relevent today.

~ Suite: Judy Blue Eyes ~ Wooden Ships ~ Long Time Gone ~ Carry On ~ Teach Your Children ~ Woodstock ~ Southern Cross ~ Ohio ~ Our House ~ Sea of Madness ~ Helplessly Hoping ~ Almost Cut My Hair ~ Helpless ~ Down By The River ~ Immigration Man ~ Chicago ~ Old Man ~ Love the One You're With ~ Find the Cost of Freedom ~ visit our website for a full song list

"Marrakesh Express is a CSNY tribute, but they do not imitate as much as capture the spirit of. They are an organic, real band, with their own distinct personalities that shine through (often humorously) in their rapport with the audience. Their harmonies are gorgeous. They're great people -- fun and energetic. They are the most original tribute band I've ever seen."

Paula performs live!
Paula Atherton
As if from no-where, and courtesy of her brand new project ‘Groove With Me’, acclaimed singer, songwriter and woodwind player Paula Atherton has dramatically emerged as a major player on the contemporary jazz and pop music scene. This sensational collection features eleven of Atherton’s original compositions plus one well chosen cover and, with the perfect blend of instrumental and vocal cuts, oozes quality throughout. The production of Lou Gimenez (who also makes significant contributions on acoustic and electric guitars) is never anything short of top-notch and with some fantastic guest musicians to lend a hand the entire recording is a total delight. New York based Atherton has opened for the likes of Chuck Loeb, Patti Austin, Tito Puente and saxophonist Najee. In 2004 her debut CD ‘Let Me Inside Your Love’ made its mark on the national contemporary jazz charts while in 2006 a cut from this album, ‘I Long For Your Love’ was included on the compilation ‘Ladies of Jazz’ that also featured Natalie Cole, Candy Dulfer and Eliane Elias. Her television work includes appearances on the Today show, Good Morning America and, as bandleader, for the Lifetime network show, ‘Girl’s Night Out’. In addition, Paula performed at fundraisers during Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and in 2002 wrote the score for the independent film ‘The Definition of Insanity’. She has crammed this musical pedigree into every note of ‘Groove With Me’ which opens with the zesty ‘Marimba Island’. It’s a track that evokes white crested waves breaking over warm white sand and shimmers with Atherton’s wonderful flute playing. This terrific example of textbook smooth jazz is in the good company of the funky yet melodic ‘Block Party’ which is blessed by Chieli Minucci on guitar and the outstanding Dave Delhomme on keyboards. Atherton on alto sax is tremendous and she stays with alto for ‘There Ain’t Nothing’. Opening with a clear hint of those killer chords from the Boz Scaggs classic ‘Lowdown’ the tune drips with all the rhythm and melody you will ever need and finds Atherton delivering on every conceivable level. When, later, she reprises the song with her own picture perfect vocals the result is just as good and, given Atherton’s prowess as a vocalist, it’s surprising that she sings on only three other tracks. The first, ‘Whenever You Come Around’, is a breathtaking example of smooth R & B that has the added benefit of Darin Brown on keys whilst the heartfelt ‘Send Down An Angel’ (Which reached #9 on FMQB a/c with 899 spins!) allows Atherton to demonstrate another side of her myriad talents. The equally romantic ‘Falling’ provides more of the pleasing same but when Paula is joined by former Tower of Power trumpeter Greg Adams for the ultra funky ‘JB’ they together crank up the volume for a high octane tribute to the great James Brown. Baron Raymonde on tenor and baritone sax adds extra horsepower while the whole piece fizzes with a horn driven frenzy. This same energy is a key component of the aptly titled ‘Funk It Up’ for which Atherton calls on noted keyboard player Onaje Allan Gumbs, and it is a feature of the CD that she is able to move seamlessly from the up tempo to the tranquil and all points between. For the tender ‘Winds Of Change (Yes We Can)’ she is at her melodic best on soprano sax. ‘Light As Air’ is jazzy, interesting and beautifully performed. The album’s only cover, the Ashford & Simpson composition ‘You’re All I Need To Get By’, is big, brassy, and thanks in no small part top more great trumpet from Adams, funky too. To select a favorite from a collection replete with riches is no easy task but, all things considered, this accolade goes to the edgy mid tempo ‘Say It Baby’. Lionel Cordew on drums and bass-man Schuyler Deale lay down a massive foundation; Brown is again immense on keys and, between blowing up a storm on sax, Atherton still finds time to combine with Naomion for some high calibre backing vocals.

This music was deeply absorbed into Mark's consciousness and would fuel a lifelong passion for music. Mark studied playing guitar at 14, and shortly after started garage bands before performing in a power trio for 800 people in a large auditorium at his high school talent show. Mark's group did not win the contest but made him a hit with the high school kids, while it made him an instant outlaw with high school authority figures. After high school, Mark relocated to LA and shortly thereafter began playing the Hollywood club circuit before increasingly larger audiences and prominent legendary clubs.

He joined his first rock band after graduation while attending college on a percussion scholarship, only to have the demands of the rock band overwhelm his academic pursuits. His first band created the opportunity to contribute to writing originals and his first real recording experience. He also spent over two years traveling and performing, using that experience to develop his style.

Realizing his musical aspirations extended beyond the Midwest, David relocated to California to attend Musician’s Institute in Hollywood and soon after established himself with the local LA scene. This led David on a 14 month coast-to-coast tour in support of an independent release CD.

Joining a Motley Crue tribute band is David’s way of paying homage to one of his favorite drummers and recognizing his roots; aggressive, hard-hitting drumming with plenty of style.

I want to thank you for a fabulous show on Saturday night. All of you have received rave reviews from the people who attended the show. I’m working on the Men’s club entertainment chairperson and hopefully they will hire you for one of the shows they sponsor each year. Again thank you and all of you are marvelous. Jeanette Castro Maverick Industries, Inc. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Good morning! I saw your performance in Atlantic City on the 15th. I took my parents to Atlantic City and they wanted to see your show. I would like to congratulate you for the music and performance, specially of your female singer. I checked your website after contacting the hotel and asking for the band name. She is incredibly beautiful and talented. Her voice is literally music in my ears. So, Doreen “Stilleto” you are beautiful and my wish is to one day see you singing live again and tell you that personally. When you started singing my jaw dropped. WOW! was all that came to my head. Keep singing! You have a great instrument! Sincerely Guto Minaytovisk ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thank you for a great show at the Clinton Library last night. You guys were fantastic. You’re the only band I’ve seen play both a Sonny & Cher tune (very funny) and “He’s a Rebel” by the Crystals lol. Your doo-wop “look” and harmonies reminded me of The Manhattan Transfer when they do their do wop tunes. In fact you reminded me of Tim Hauser a little. The musicianship, vocals, song selection, energy level, everything was very well done. I almost forgot, Doreen is fantastic. You can’t stop watching her, you know? The investment you & Doreen put into the show makes a connection with the audience immediate: you had us right from the giddy-up. Bill Noren ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Joey and Doreen (aka Stiletto), My wife and I, along with 3 other couples attended your show last night, July 15th at Echo Lake Park. We all enjoyed the show and think you are really knockout performers. Both you and Joey are non stop showmen and really enjoyed what you are doing. With entertainers like you, we don’t need the many showboats that exist in the industry. Again I want to ‘Thank’ the family for such an outstanding show. Looking forward to seeing you perform again. Sincerely, Pat Natale Summit, NJ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I really just want to say thank you again. We were blown away by all the raw talent. It was my first time seeing you and my mouth was hanging open. And hey, thanks for putting up with our family! I know you played a really long time for us My pesky relatives kept bugging me to ask you to play a little longer, so I hope you didn’t mind too much. We really appreciated your generosity with that. We are official “groupies” now and plan to come see you at Monmouth Fair! LA, Manalapan, NJ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ What a great show!!! My favorite part was the bikini and the pink guitar. Great combo! You have an amazing voice. So does Joe! I didn’t realize that he also sang. I loved how you changed into all those costumes, it was funny too! My stepfather was with me, he’s a huge fan of yours.. It was wonderful!! Robin, Wallace Verona, NJ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thanks so much for the concert last night. Again you were terrific and it was a delight to meet you afterward. Hope to see you again. Ron E, NY, NY ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Wow! What a show! I enjoyed ever moment of it! From beginning to end, the costume changes, the music, the singing, and that Saxophone unbelievable, and that drummer, “Wipe Out”! Felt good to hear some good music and have some great entertainment! Can’t wait to see you all again! These people work hard to put on a great show with music and singing voices that are fantastic. You can tell by the show it’s not just a job they really enjoy what they do. See you all again real soon! Toni Payne ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The concert was awesome. Had a great time; Doreen and Joey Arminio are packing some serious talent and great energy Naomi. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I’m a guitarist/entertainer from Verona and I have to mention that you guys are true musicians and performers with a lot of soul. Great choice of tunes. Keep up the excellent work. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Excellent, Vegas style act. I went to High School with Joey, but haven’t seen him since 1978. He had a definite streak of showmanship, with great tone on the trumpet (his only instrument at the time). Somehow I’m not surprised that he’s now a great entertainer.. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I’m a musician and singer so, I appreciate good bands that understand dynamics with musicians that have discipline and that don’t try to play everything they know in each song and that are able to hear each other and blend in. Finally, A band on youtube that can cut the mustard. Nice job. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I always see you guys playing on Staten Island Community television. You guys have a tremendous act and you are a tremendous singer who combines a voice, dance and stage presence with great ease.. You make me long for the country that once was. It is very gratifying to know people like you, Joey and the band still exist… Hope to see you on Staten Island in the future. Good luck with all your future endeavors… God Bless …. Kristy Kline
Electric rock harpist sets the stage for a revolutionary music experience. Cleveland is the American city where the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum resides; fitting then that Cleveland should also be the home of rock harpist Christina Kline. Inspired by legendary rock artists, Kline has a unique style demonstrating cutting- edge artistic expression, a showcase of creative arrangements that electronically transform the harp.

As a child, Christina was moved by the elegance and tone of the harp, and began her formal studies at age twelve with Laura Erb. Ms. Erb has been recognized for her expertise in music arrangements for Hollywood’s movie music scores (“ The Godfather”, “Love Story”, “Fiddler on the Roof“) It was only three months later Christina began performing for events, country clubs, restaurants, Cleveland’s Playhouse Square, etc.

Ready to pursue a career in music, Christina attended Ohio University where she majored in harp performance. Upon receiving a call to play in Cleveland for the king of Jordan, she returned and shortly thereafter began her private practice teaching over 26 students, formed a harp ensemble, and began her own agency “Makin’ Music” acting as agent and promoting local musicians. She continued to play locally including a ten year engagement at the Ritz Carlton in downtown Cleveland and had impromptu performances with rock icons including Robert Plant, Rodger Daltry, Billy Joel, etc. The sessions could go on for hours and the seeds for “Harp Rock” were taking root.

Here is an artist that produced and released her first recording in 1992 “Golden Harp Lullabies” with the St. Angela choir creating a soothing atmosphere for children to fall asleep to. The sheer magic of recording “Egyptian Harp Dreams” in 1997 contains a collection of Egyptian folk songs dating as far back as 896 AD truly representative of the unique mysticism of ancient Egypt. Distributed to Borders, Barnes & Noble, and the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, art museums, libraries, and yoga facilities across the United States. Independently, Christina has recorded 4 CD’s. “Harp Rock” caught the attention of Fox producer/creator (Hart Hanson) of the popular weekly show “Bones”. In 2007 Christina’s version of the ZZ Top classic Gimmie All Your Lovin’ was heard on an episode of the show. “Harp Rock” contains 14 classic rock songs you have loved throughout the years.

Animal Nation was designed as therapeutic animal music, and for all animal lovers! World rock electric harp music
