Destiny
After years of playing with band after band, and all genres of music from Christian Rock to rock and country cover bands, David Graham dreamed of a band in which he could get back to his “roots” of Carolina Beach music. The music which, as a kid, David listened to on the local AM station every day, and the same music that his mother had taught him to dance to, especially the South Carolina State Dance—“The Shag”. The music made from real Carolinas musicians that he had traveled around the Carolinas to see and dance “The Shag” to with his family, and the music he had seen performed when he attended the “Cammy” Awards in Myrtle Beach.

So, after keeping it in the back of his mind for years, David finally decided to explore his own “Destiny”, and decided to actually try and start a band like the one he envisioned in his mind. After trying several different musician configurations, in talking with longtime friend and fellow musician J.J. Wallace, a veteran of various gospel, cover and party bands himself, these two friends decided to unite forces to form a band that would not only reflect their respective musical influences, but would also reflect a culture unique to the Carolinas—Beach Music. And with the foundation firmly in place, “Destiny”--the band that once only existed in dreams--had actually begun taking shape. Then came seasoned music industry veterans Michael Hyatt and Jimmy Rogers.

Having appeared during their careers with such legendary music acts such as The Temptations, Sammy O’Banion, and The Embers, and fresh off of a stint with their own commercially-successful and radio-charting project, beach legends “The SugarBees”, Michael and Jimmy were now looking for their next project. Having played with the “Destiny” foundation of Graham & Wallace on the rare occasions when their paths and schedules would cross on the event circuit, these “SugarBees” saw a “sweet” opportunity to build a powerhouse--a “tight”, versatile and musically-gifted band the likes of neither band had previously experienced. So, even as the most recent two of four “SugarBees” songs were receiving heavy radio air-play, it only took a phone call from Michael to Destiny’s Graham, and the next great “Beach” super-band was formed.

From taking the chance and auditioning together on a January night in 1996 (rather fittingly, on THE day of the calendar most associated with new beginnings), to the uncanny coincidence of the simultaneous availability, along with the shared vision, experience, and motivation of four beach music veterans, “Destiny” was founded on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1996, and reformed and reborn in June 2007. And the rest, as they say, is history…

…Or is it “Destiny”?
