Juannell Johnson a.k.a "1L" grew up on the rough streets of Chicago's Southside. At home his family played records and listened to all the old time greats. Like Sam Cook, Marvin Gaye, Smokie Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Frankie Beverly and so on. These great artists had a strong impact on his life and gave him a true sense of real music. At age 10 1L started singing and competing in talent shows throughout Chicago. Some people who heard him said “Juannell has an old soul for his age”. As 1L got older he started working with local artists and producers in the underground market and soon creates a buzz for his self in the streets. In 2002 1L met a producer name Black Magic“aka”Singles who produced on artist albums such as: Ice Cube's "Death Certificate", Casper's "The Cha-Cha slide", produced and performed on the club mix album by Club Nouveau, produced the #1 hit singles "Set a Drift of Memory Bliss" and "Die Without You" performed by P.M. Dawn were both of these songs went on to be #1 hits on the motion picture sound track “Boomerrang” Intrigued with 1L unique sound and cultivating lyrics, Black Magic recorded a song by 1L called “My Everything”. This was 1L first single and it was a hit. The song took the streets by storm. It played on over 20 different radio stations across the nation and internet stations. The song was on billboards top 20’s for R&B single sales and sold over 25 thousand copies. 1L gained respect from the underground, ministers, old and young people, thugs and CEO’s. He made appearances on local TV musical shows. He performed at local events in Chicago, open for One Chance, Bump J and Public Announcement. 1L also, Performed in Holly Springs “Big Jam”, Augusta GA, Memphis, Mississippi, Selma AL, and The McCormick Place for three thousand young students. 1L has been compared to some of the industry’s most awesome talented artists with his angelic vocals and passionate lyrics. Indeed, 1L is an R&B genius and a force to be reckoned with. No doubt, 1L is a natural born star and will make history in the music industry.
