Live Oakes Educational Theatre is dedicated to combining rigorous research with acting expertise to bring history to life. Since 1994 our mission has been to inspire our audiences with edu-taining stories from the past that can make a difference for the future. Ancient Greece and Rome An interactive show with evocative sets, authentic costumes, a Greek game show, and a Roman Rap! The Complete Condensed History of California An inspiring and hilarious whirlwind tour de force of history including Native Americans, Explorers, Missions, the Gold Rush, African American ‘49ers, Asian immigrants, the Great Quake, Beats, Hippies, and .com-ers. Whew! The theme is building bridges of tolerance. Coyote Tales Coyote Tales from many tribal traditions are skillfully woven into a hilarious and haunting tapestry of Native American Mythology, with evocative costumes, sets and music. From Colonies to Country Explore the founding of the U.S. in song and story from Native Americans, explorers, pilgrims, the French, the Revolution to the Constitution. From letters, diaries, documents and music we craft a colonial quilt of characters.

In the Wake of Gold An award-winning maritime voyage through Gold Rush California based on primary sources, songs, and archeological evidence. The audience learns lively sea shanties, tolerance for diversity, and an anti-drug message. I Have a Dream: Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement The life and times of Martin Luther King Jr. are celebrated in word and song. We meet Gandhi, Mohamed Ali, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Caesar Chavez and others who influenced the Movement or were inspired by it. A rousing revival meeting rich in gospel music and emotion. Leonardo da Vinci: Renaissance Man Professional actor/scholar Michael Oakes traveled throughout Italy researching this portrait of the artist, engineer, and scientist, complete with sumptuous costumes, sets, and music. The Master recruits apprentices, and the audience plays an edu-taining riddle game, "De-Coding Da Vinci"! Muir of the Mountains The ‘Father of Our National Parks” and founder of the Sierra Club tells his own inspirational story. Actor/Biologist Michael Oakes leads a trek through Muir’s adventures, Yosemite campouts with Presidents, and impassioned pleas for wilderness conservation. Shakespeare: Live! The Bard himself blends tearful tragedy, cheerful comedy, a bawdy bit with audience volunteers, and anecdotes of Elizabethan life. Professional actors Michael & Renee Oakes use scenes, sonnets and song to paint an edu-taining portrait of the Prince of Players and the Renaissance. The Call of the Wild: the Life of Jack London The revolutionary Bay Area writer of To Build a Fire, White Fang, and The Sea Wolf, tells his own inspirational story in an interactive show. Actor Michael Oakes creates a powerful portrayal. Jack's wife Charmian London introduces this literary legend.
