The Drifters are truly unique in today's world of coming and going popular music groups. And following the Drifters 25 year long history is like reading a history of contemporary popular music. From the Drifters very first release on Atlantic Records, "There Goes My Baby" (which was also the first rhythm and blues record to incorporate violins), the Drifters were bound for stardom - with a 2 million seller under their belts in the first try. Over the next ten years there were 29 additional chart records (according to Billboard) accounting for nearly 200,000,000 sales of singles and over 80 million albums in the United States alone. In fact (source: The Book of Lists), only the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Bee Gees and Michael Jackson have sold more records over a more sustained period of time than the Drifters.

The Drifters have appeared in every major night club and concert hall in the United States from Las Vegas to 10 sold out appearances at New York's Madison Square Garden. The Drifters have literally toured the entire world including a recent one month tour to the Far East and highlighted by being chosen to represent the United States for the great Bicentennial tour of Russia in 1977. The Drifters have even appeared at the White House for President Bush and at the home of the widow of the late Robert Kennedy in a concert for Ted Kennedy and friends. The Drifters television appearances have numbered nearly 100 over the years, highlighted by being the only group to make two appearances on "Roots of Rock & Roll," the Twentieth Century Fox syndicated series.

One important reason for The Drifters success is their intimate relationship with the greatest songwriters of their time and the great Drifters hits were written by such song winning legends as Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Doc Pomus, and Lieber & Stoller.

Today, as right from the beginning, the group includes original members. The current act blends a tasteful mixture of their million sellers with contemporary standards, many in medley form and several lifted from their hot new Columbia album, "Too Hot," which promises to soar up the hit charts - all presented within the context of the Drifters famous patented choreography.
