Jerry Markbreit
Markbreit retired from the 3M Company after 38 years. In his position, he daily negotiated and traded millions of dollars of advertising, media time and materials with businesses throughout the world. After officiating high school football for nine years, Jerry became a member of the Big Ten Football officiating staff and in 1977, he became an NFL referee. He had the honor of officiating several championship games, as well as four Super Bowls. The 1998 season was Markbreit’s 23rd and final year in the NFL and his 43rd consecutive season of football officiating. The 1999 season was his first year as a replay official. Jerry also wrote a weekly football column for the Chicago Sun Times for several years while working college football and in 1973 wrote The Armchair Referee. His autobiography entitled Born to Referee was published in 1988.
