The first woman to serve as Director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Bernadine Healy launched the Women's Health Initiative, a $625 million effort to study the causes, prevention and cures of diseases that affect woman. Former Chairman of the Research Institute of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, she also served at the White House and was a Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Healy has received numerous awards including the Charles A. Dana Foundation Award for exceptional leadership and Glamour's Woman of the Year Award.
