Don Riegle led the effort to restore the strength of the U.S. financial services industry and is the only U.S. senator to have served on three economic policy committees. As chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, he authored two landmark bills to benefit consumers and to spur local economic development. During his 18 years in the Senate, Riegle was a leading force on strengthening U.S. competitiveness and international trading practices. He was also a key legislator on health care reform, housing, and tax issues. In the private sector, Riegle spent three years at IBM. He has lectured at Michigan State University, Boston University, the Washington Campus (a consortium of 15 U.S. universities), and the Kennedy Institute of Politics at Harvard University. Riegle is also the author of the best-selling book, O'Congress, and is a frequent guest on national news shows dealing with economic and financial matters.
