WC's stellar performance as a member of the Westside Connection was a sweet introduction for many hip-hop fans who were once oblivious to his history. Though he is not a hoiusehold name like some of his protegees, specifically Ice Cube and Coolie, WC has bee recognized as one of L.S.'s finest of the mix. He began his decade-long career as lead lyricist for both Low Profile and The MAAD Circle (the lattter group included Coolio as a supporting player). WC's life in the music biz is an "A&E Biography in the making--the regional star who is only appreciated by a few until bearing witness to his music or his live performance. Such was the saga until Westside Connection's 1996 Bow Down album.

To complement his growth and musical ability, the best producers (who happen to be big WC fans) were called upon to augment the soundscape for the autobiographical LP. His makers like Das Dillinger, Ant Banks, Barr 9, Battlecat, and of course WC's little brother DJ Crazy Toones saturate The Shadiest One with everything from backyard boogie to '70s funk.
