The wife, mother of three, and matriarch of Da Band, Sara Stokes, juggles a full load with the determination of a Samurai. Described as a face of an angelic schoolgirl with the voice of a church bell, this subtle siren has exploded onto the music scene. Touring, writing, modeling, acting, and managing her life as wife and mother, she is well on her way to superstardom…but hers was not an overnight success story.

Sara was raised between Port Huron and Detroit Michigan. She shares her first memories of performing; singing the Pointer Sisters’ “He’s So Shy,” dressed in her mother’s clothes belting the notes for family friends. Her voice was mature, and her show was dynamic. The smiles and encouragement that followed her frequent performances was intoxicating, and Sara soon began entering local talent contests. She recorded her first song, “You Make Me Feel Happy,” with Tony Walton and signed her first autograph as an eighth grader, following a show-stealing vocal performance at a local athlete’s charity event, Celebration of Hope. That performance garnered the attention of local press and reinforced her love of the stage. As an honor student and athlete, Sara continued her pursuit of stardom during her high school years. Opening for R&B group H-Town at 16 was a major coup. She even sang as a member of Chemistry, the 15-member chorale accompanying gospel great Karen Clark-Sheard. While finishing school she worked with several producers to record an album. Sara completed volumes of work, but no avenue led to a major deal.

At 19 Sara married husband, Emanuel Stokes, and began growing their family, never losing sight of her goals. With her husband’s support and guidance she was introduced to producers, Slam and Kenny Hickson. She was even invited to the set of 8 Mile, as a member of the local music scene. Slam and Hickson produced several songs and Sara was ready to release her solo CD when Emanuel shared information he had heard about a contest seeking vocalists to become members of a group that Sean, “P.Diddy” Combs was putting together. Initial apprehension converted to focus when Sara hit the stage for the Detroit audition.

Winning a finalist spot, among thousands of artists, was a feat, but when Sara was chosen to be a member of the group, her life was not only shared with the world through the MTV reality series, Making the Band 2, but moved on the fast track to stardom!

As millions of viewers learn the successes and trials of the six-member group, Da Band continues to open doors for the multitalented Mrs. Stokes. She looks to increase her performance repertoire to include more acting, modeling, and expanding her exploration of vocal arts. Sara’s star continues to ascend, yet she remains grounded and focused, “I want people to know that you can have a family and follow your dreams; if you have heart and God, you can do it.”

Sara Stokes works tirelessly to reach her potential. Look for her in national publications as a model and spokeswoman for a cosmetics line, on MTV’s Making the Band 2 (season 3), guest starring on your favorite TV shows, collaborating with other artists, online at www.sara-stokes.com, or performing with her group, Da Band.
