Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, this roots oriented reggae unit includes in its lineup former residents of St. Lucia, the Virgin Islands and Jamaica. Anchored by the bass and drums foundation of Eustace and Terry Bobb, its founding members, fondly referred to as The St. Lucian Riddim Twins, The Ark Band now displays its many talents in this 10-song album. The result is a combination of roots and lovers reggae, one calypso and one crossover tune. "Na Give Up," the upbeat title track, opens up the album followed by "Hustler" and "Friends" two danceable tunes that lead into "Roses," a lovers oriented number. The next two tracks, " Oh Jah" and "Boom Shot" are strong uplifting message songs that will be noticed by the skanking massive. "Ring on your Finger" ( a call to all the girls in the world ) returns us to an upbeat highly danceable selection. "Missing You" is a crossover tune that changes the tempo is followed by "Rosie," a calypso that will definitely catch your attention and make you "wanna dance" some more. The last song is the spiritually oriented, "The Lord is My Light" that turns the listener's attention to the hope of Jah as "my light and my salvation."
The NA GIVE UP release is fine debut effort by Columbus Ohio's number 1reggae outfit and gives promise for "mo better" from The Ark Band, one of the best roots reggae bands in the Midwest U.S. If this CD is any indication of its musical talents, then The Ark Band certainly will be heard from again. Yeah, mon, The Ark Band will "na give up."
