Steps started out in late 1997 when they performed their first single, '5, 6, 7, 8', on Children in Need. When it was released it was very successful, but it never got above No 11 (it's the biggest selling single this decade not to get into the Top 10). Their next single, 'Last Thing On My Mind', was less popular but it got to No 6. Their third single, 'One For Sorrow', peaked at No 2 and paved the way for the massively successful album 'Step One'. After that they planned to release 'Heartbeat', a ballad from the album, with a Bee-Gees cover (called 'Tragedy') as the B-side. It didn't quite go that way, though. The single was released as a double A-side, and a video was made for 'Tragedy'. 'Tragedy' became Steps' most popular song ever, and the single spent over three months in the Top 10, including a week at No 1. The lastest single from Steps, 'Better Best Forgotten', was released a few weeks ago and reached No 2.
