With a career spanning several decades, and total record sales of more than 40 million units behind him, you might expect Randy Bachman to have slowed down or mellowed. But the veteran Canadian singer/guitarist/songwriter, who rose to chart-topping prominence in the '60s with the Guess Who, and rocked just as successfully through the '70s as frontman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, is still going strong.

Marking his debut with True North Records, Bachman's latest is solo album Merge - a recording that is a testament to his ability to write and perform lasting hits. The centerpiece of the 12 track album is a song entitled Made in Canada, which was performed with the one and only Neil Young. This 10 minute song, captured in one take, was recorded at Young's sprawling ranch/studio north of San Francisco. Of the track, Bachman enthuses... "The song was over at four (minutes), but then he (Young) launched into this solo that's like Hendrix burning his guitar at Monterey."

Merge, which features Bachman's son Tally playing drums, piano, guitar and accordion, literally merges his ongoing interests in numerous forms of rock music....Bachman comments: "Growing up in the prairie town of Winnipeg, Manitoba I heard all kinds of great music late night on my little rocket radio. Over the years I have had so many musical influences that they are impossible to name. However, I played these new songs in the styles of many of my heroes."

One reason Randy has been able to maintain his credibility through the all the years and musical trends is his eagerness to work with younger and rawer talents. He recorded Takin' Care of Business (and appeared in the video) with the revered Vancouver punk band DOA - he also recorded the song with zany American band Dread Zeppelin. In addition, he's worked with such Canadian artists as Lava Hay, Leslie Spit Tree-o and Hardship Post.
