The members of Mudhoney were all vibrant participants in the incestuous and intertwined Northwest music scene. To make any sort of sense of their vast contributions would require a computer program - which actually exists. From Dan Peters, who was a backbone of the early scene, playing drums in such bands as Room Nine, and Budle of Hiss, to Matt's presence in the Melvins, and Steve and Mark's time spent in the seminal Green River, the history of Northwest rock can not be told without including the members of Mudhoney. Mudhoney was '80s and '90s grunge rock. In 1988 they released the single "Touch Me, I'm Sick" which defined grunge. Forget serious grunge acts like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. Mudhoney uses the same themes and turns them sleazy and trashy, like the Russ Meyers film they named themselves after. Sometimes their records are inconsistent, but when they are on the mark, they are one of the greatest.
