1984-85, The band Guns N' Roses first came together as a mix of L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose. L.A. Guns was a band that Axl was fronting, Hollywood Rose was a band that Axl had created but spilt soon after Izzy joined. These two bands were both short on members so they decided to help each other out and form one band. The members of the first GNR include Axl, Duff, Izzy, Tracii Guns(guitar), and Robert Gardner(drums). The band sets out on their first tour, but problems encountered on the way cause Tracii and Robert to leave. A few nights till the opening gig Slash and Steven join. This was the line-up that made them famous.

1986, Release Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide on independent Uzi Suicide label. On March 26 band is signed to Geffen Records. Suicide sells all 10,000 copies in two weeks.

1987, Release Appetite for Destruction. This is their first major record. Released by Geffen Records they also release Live from the Jungle only in Japan. Band must change Appetite cover because some say it's degrading to women. The original cover can be found inside the album booklet.

1988, Released. Axl is arrested for assaulting a security guard during a performance. He pleads guilty. The band finishes the set without Axl. Band wins MTV's "Best New Artist" and "Best Video(Jungle)" awards.

1989, Axl tells everyone the band is breaking up because one member has a drug problem. Slash admitted he was addicted to heroin the following night. Izzy voided his bladder in an airplane and is banned from future air travel. Band wins MTV's "Best Heavy Metal Song(Sweet Child)" award. Band also wins "Best Heavy Metal Album(Appetite)" and "Best Heavy Metal Song(Paradise City)" from the American Music Awards.

1990, GNR perform at Farm Aid 4. Axl marries Erin Everly and annuls it later in the year. Axl is arrested for assaulting his neighbor. The charges are dropped due to lack of evidence. Steven Adler is fired and replaced by Matt Sorum from The Cult.

1991, Use Your Illusion 1 and Use Your Illusion II are released by Geffen Records. Axl incites a riot at St. Louis when he jumps into the crowd to grab a camera someone used to take his picture. The band loses all it's equipment and Axl is formally charged with inciting a riot. Izzy quits, replaced by Gilby Clarke. Keyboradist Dizzy Reed added to line-up. The band wins MTV's "Vanguard" award for lifetime achievement.

1992, Axl incites another riot in Montreal by telling the crowd to get their money back then walking off stage 50 minutes into the set. Metallica's James Hetfield was burned by a pyrotechnic charge before the Gunners took the stage. Slash marries Rene Suran. Duff marries Linda Johnson.

1993, The Spaghetti Incident? released. The hidden track on the album was a song written by Charles Manson. The royalties from this song go to Bartek Frykowski, the son of a Manson family victim.

1994, Axl is sued for battery by both Erin Everly and Stephanie Seymour. Slash appears in HBO's "Tales From the Crypt".

1995-97, The gunners are rumored to start a new album and a tour in the spring of 97. Nothing happens. Gilby Clarke quits, no replacement named. Slash, Matt are out of the band, and Moby and Mike Clink are reported to be the producers of the album.

2000, Axl Rose is the only remaining original member of Guns N' Roses. The remaining lineup is comprised of veteran GN'R keyboardist Dizzy Reed, former Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson, lead guitarists Buckethead and Robin Finck, rhythm guitarist Paul Tobias, and former Primus drummer Bryan "Brain" Mantia
