The Chris Barba Band recently completed their dynamic debut EP “Whiskey Nights”, drawing on musical influences such as Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Eric Clapton. Fronted by Chris Barba and Kat Volikas, the two Connecticut based singers’ trade lead vocal duties and also perform powerful duets on original blues-rock songs. It all began when Chris took a handful of his songs to a recording studio to track with the studio’s house band. The songs took on new life and just needed the finishing touches of a female vocalist. Chris found Katherine “Kat” Volikas and it all came together. “I didn’t know exactly what I wanted, I just knew it had to be strong and delicate at the same time” Chris said. “Kat took the songs home and worked out some ideas; when she came back to record it was clear that we had defined the CBB sound. After completing the EP, Chris and Kat wanted bring the music in front of live audiences, and began searching for players with the “right fit”. The music features prominent Hammond Organ along with Chris’ driving guitar sound. Marti Adams fills that crucial role, and she also adds a second female vocal – creating robust three part harmonies. “When Marti first cranked up her Hammond & Leslie, I knew this was the keyboardist we had to have” Chris stated. “When we heard her vocal harmonies with Kat, we all knew we were on to something very special”. Lou Albert (Drums) and Cody Barba (Bass) have a key role in driving the band dynamics. They know just when and how to push the band to crescendos and bring it back down again; in a way that draws the audience into the music. The CBB goal is to bring the audience and band together through music. “Our songs are about experiences and emotions that most of us have lived” Chris said, “when we perform, our goal is to get everyone in the same emotional space; because understanding what we all have in common is key to living peacefully with one another”.
