Gibraltar Jazz- featuring guitarist/vocalist Richie Naef & vocalist Phyllis Novin. Together they create "JazzABilly" -music that's retro but rockin. With Phyllis's powerful, intricate vocals and Richie's exciting guitar style the music takes you on a wild ride. One client called it " a great performance: raunchy, sexy, engaging". Their large playlist is an eclectic blend of Jazz/R&B and Standards. Richie arranges & records the songs adding drums and bass. Performing guitar and vocals live gives you the power and sound of a full band. Richie and Phyllis began their musical collaboration in the mid 70's. Within one year a fire destroyed their studio but inspired a new direction. What followed was 25 yrs of original music with Richie on guitar/vocals & Phyllis-vocals/keyboard. Beginning with complex, orchestrated art rock; they intensified the sound with New Wave and Punk and eventually created a unique blend of JazzRock. Their bands performed at CBGB, Max's Kansas City, The Electric Circus and Mudd Club, My Fathers Place and many hot venues in NYC and the Northeast. TV and Radio airplay included WLIR, WNYU & WNEW. The late 80's saw Phyllis also working in Theater and Cabaret in NYC. Richie joined in and together they scored and Phyllis musical directed several theatrical productions including two Off Off Broadway shows. As part of LORAGE Productions they have created music for several independent films. One film "Animal Crackers Pentemente" was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 and has received many awards since. (Phyllis also became a comic book artist for the Simpsons but that's another story!) But always the love of 30's/40's Jazz and Blues remained. In 2006 the duet Gibraltar Jazz was born. Gibraltar Jazz has made multiple appearances at the "Jazz On The Vine" and "Make Music NY" concert series, vineyards, Clubs and restaurants (Montauk Yacht Club & The Southampton Inn), Assisted Living and Senior centers, Corporate events (North Shore LIJ Health System and National League of Nursing), and Film Industry launch parties.
