Damien is often described as a triple threat for his versatility; he writes his own lyrics, he taught himself to play the guitar and he is an accomplished musician. Damien was born in San Fernando, Trinidad; He was raised partly in Claxton, Trinidad and moved to New York City when he was thirteen years old.
By seven, Damien was already an accomplished performer of Reggae and Calypso music. New York City opened a new stage for the sound track of his life; Damien immersed himself in a whole new world of R&B and Rock.
Damien’s music influences are rooted in his family; his father was a welder and he played steel drums, his older brother, Dexter was a DJ. Damien often credits Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley for his musical sound. Damien has great admiration for Led Zeppelin and looks up to Bill Withers and Jimmy Hendrix for their guitar styles.
“Albums like “What’s going on” by Marvin Gaye inspire me. Throughout the Album, he takes you on a tour of the political, social and economical struggles that are timeless and the listener experiences everything with him; that is something I hope to accomplish with my music. I want to take the listener on a journey with me, from beginning to end.”
Damien’s lyrics depict personal reflections and poignant observations on life, love and the pursuit of happiness. Damien’s music delivers raw messages that many describe as daring yet a solace for everyday life’s encounters.
In an interview, Richards said “My thoughts on life can be a little audacious or bold but I always embrace the moment and take each blessing as it comes.”
Damien has always yearned to give his fans a good story and music that is both soulful and organic in its delivery. His music is a departure from today’s over manufactured sounds and many people agree and have whole heartedly joined his “Rock-N-Soul Movement”.
