With influences like Ryan Adams, Bonnie Raitt and Ava Gardner, sultry Maureen Davis heads up The Flutterbies (pronounced “Flutter-byes”). Alt-country twang, bluesy grit and folk sweetness blend with earthy vocals and edgy guitars, mixing salt with poetry, heat with harmony.

Nominated for BEST FEMALE VOCALIST/BEST COUNTRY BAND South Bay Music Awards 2009, Lead Singer Maureen was recently opener/background vocalist for Grammy-winner Michelle Shocked. Like Michelle, Maureen is no stranger to using her music for the common good, producing and performing for Starlight Children’s Foundation/Make-A-Wish, Palotta Teamworks (AIDSWalk) and American Red Cross Fundraisers for Kosovo, 911 and California Fire disaster relief efforts. This year, the sweet, hypnotic “Hummingbird Heart” is the logo song for www.gettoknowusfirst.org, a campaign to reverse Proposition 8, used in behind-the-scenes films starring George Takai and Gloria Allred.

Maureen’s dusty, honey-smothered vocals evoke comparisons to Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Maria McKee. But with Bart Ryan’s raging slide guitars, edgy, provocative lyrics, and a wanton wail, Maureen’s 2009 release THE FLUTTERBIES FEATURING MAUREEN DAVIS sounds even closer to a female Ryan Adams project.

Produced by Bart Ryan, engineered by GRAMMY-WINNER Seth Atkins Horan, the EP features the talents of Bassist Steve Whalen (of L.A. cult band The Gluey Brothers), Drummer Christopher Allis (with credits as diverse as the Met Theatre’s revival production of HAIR, “Cowboy Jazz” chanteuse Circe Link and TV commercials for Coca-Cola), Keyboardist Jameson Trotter (Jeff Jensen, Bart Ryan, K8 Stewart,Laura Jane) and Backing Vocalist Molly Pasutti (SOUTHPARK, Schoolhouse Rock, Luther Vandross, Kenny Loggins, Windham Hill Artist Lisa Lynne).

The songs range from sad and sweet to outrageously sexy. 5 of the 6 tunes on THE FLUTTERBIES EP were co-penned with Powerpop luminary Adam Daniel—known for his 1999 album BLUE POP, hailed by All Music Guide as “…among the best guitar-pop albums of the ’90’s…”

The diminutive diva honed her talents in the original cast of the Tony-winning Broadway’s “Into The Woods” with Bernadette Peters, and appearances in Japan, Russia and at Carnegie Hall with renowned Jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton. Soon after, Maureen ran away to the circus of the Hollywood rock scene, scoring an Alternative Rock & Pop publishing deal with Keel and WAYNE’S WORLD band member-turned-film music entrepreneur Marc Ferrari. This garnered Maureen hundreds of TV/film placements to date on HOUSE, DEXTER, MY NAME IS EARL, JAG, ANOTHER WORLD, ABC MOVIE OF THE WEEK “TRAPPED IN A PURPLE HAZE” among several other network & cable needledrops. Maureen also was hired to produce 200 cues for libraries regularly used on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, MTV shows and E! TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORIES (The Judds, Oprah Winfrey, Drew Barrymore, Mel Gibson and others).
